Game Day Snackage: Kale Chips

September 26, 2015

Football season has arrived and here at Peeled we are all about game day snacks. We don’t think it’s a coincidence that our homemade kale chips have been flying from the Grab n Go station lately – they’re the perfect snack!

Kale is for sure the biggest health food trend in recent memory, but there’s good reason – it’s versatile and it holds the #1 spot on the Aggregate Nutrition Density Index (ANDI), which you may have seen at your grocery store.

And the best part? They’re so simple to make at home! While the Peeled method involves a dehydrator, we wanted to share a different recipe that will allow you to make a big batch for game day in your own kitchen.

Ingredients

  • ½ bunch kale leaves
  • ½ tablespoon extra virgin olive oil or melted coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon fine Himalayan sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 300F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment or oil.
  2. De-stem the kale and tear it into large pieces. Wash and pat dry or allow to air dry thoroughly.
  3. In a large bowl, toss kale with oil and spices.
  4. Spread kale onto the baking sheet in a single layer – don’t overcrowd.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes, then flip the leaves before baking another 12 minutes until firm and crispy.
  6. Cool on the sheet for 3 minutes before serving immediately so chips stay crunchy.
