Will run for beet juice

October 10, 2015

If you're in Chicago Marathon mode, we've got a last minute tip - drink up! Beet juice is a runner's best friend, and here's why:

  • It can boost blood and oxygen flow into your muscles
  • It can improve your tolerance against high-intensity exercise
  • It can cut minutes off your run time

Since beet juice is full of nitrates, which is converted to nitric oxide, a molecule that enhances blood vessel dilation. This increases blood flow capacity and lowers the amount of oxygen your muscles need. A study in the European Journal of Applied Physiology showed that runners who drank beet juice before a 5K took 1.5% off their time. And if you're getting ready to tackle 26.2 miles, you know why every little bit helps.

Here at Peeled, the bright red beauty is a staple in some of our favorite hand crafted juices - try The Roots Crew with beets, carrot and apple or Swiss Beets with beets, apple and ginger. And you can stock up cold pressed favorites like Pinky Swear with beet, pineapple, pear, ginger and aloe or our Classic Cleanse staple Maroon 5 - it's the earthiest of the bunch with beets, carrot, apple, lemon and ginger for a burst of nutrient-rich energy. Pop in to your neighborhood PJB or stock up early by ordering online as part of a juice pack

Chicago Marathoners, we raise our beet juice to you!
